Dr. Robert Gerring MD

Meet Dr. Robert Gerring!  He is a Board Certified Ear, Nose, and throat specialist here in Palm Beach County.  His offices are in Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach.  He is kind, caring, and has a fabulous sense of humor.  You can often hear him laughing with his patients, relieving the potential stress of a visit to the doctor.  A lover of the outdoors, he can often be found volunteering with his son’s boy scout troop on one of their many adventures.

Thank you, Dr. Gerring, for taking the time to share your story with us and your love of The Palm Beaches.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m an Ear, Nose, and Throat physician. I grew up in a very small town in Western New York. Wanting to experience a warmer world, I went to college in North Carolina. There I met my wife, a native Floridian. I definitely got what I wanted when we moved to South Florida!

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
We have two kids, two cats, and three dogs!

Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
I’m an Ear, Nose, and Throat physician. I love most everything about my career, especially getting to know patients.

What is your favorite restaurant in The Palm Beaches, and what do you love there?
Nature’s Corner Cafe – Curry chicken salad and unsweet tea. They know me too well there.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
4 years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
I can’t pick! It’s fun meeting new people every day.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I love history and am currently on a French Revolution kick. I would probably pick a nerdy historical trip around France, and definitely, also need to go to Rome. I was a Classics major in college and still haven’t been!

Q: What is your favorite movie?
I’m notoriously easy to please when it comes to movies. The last movie I saw was an anime film with my kids called “Demon Slayer”. I even liked that!

Q: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?
Stay 6 feet apart! (a little covid joke)

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Swim / Run race in Stockholm archipelago.

Q: What is your favorite type of music to listen to or your favorite band?
I currently oscillate between country and 90s. My kids will tell you it’s Eric Church because I made them listen to every album a bunch on road trips.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
C.R. Chicks. My wife and I used to look forward to getting “smokies” there every time we would make a trip to the area for college breaks to see her family. Now we’re lucky to get it whenever we want!

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I recently discovered Podcasts and have been listening to everything by this guy, Mike Duncan! History of Rome. I just finished the French Revolution. Really good if you like history.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Palm Beach Masters Swimming – can and do swim almost every day in the outside pool. It’s an amazing workout organized by outstanding coaches, and so great to be outside.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I won my entire high school’s “Say What Karaoke” competition in 8th grade, doing a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Right below Niagara Falls on the Maid of the Mist – I get really excited describing this to people.  It’s also really great in Winter when the edges of the falls freeze and it’s lit up at night!

Q: What’s your favorite day of the year and why?
Christmas Eve – love the anticipation!

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Riverbend Park in Jupiter. I love it there. Even on a hot and sunny day you can still run there and be in shade. You can paddle as well which is so cool in the forested sections of the river. It’s a wonderful place. Massive thanks to the people who have worked to preserve it for us.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My partner in practice, Michael Lipan. We have a great working relationship and discuss interesting or challenging cases together.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Steak. Fresh cut grass. For an ENT I’m lucky not to have allergies.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Puppies, Good food, Puppy Poop (3 dogs – but they’re learning 🙂
