Meet Dena Lyons! A painter and fine artist who has taken her amazing talent to new levels by turning her creations into wearable works of art. Dena paints landscapes, and trees, turning them into vibrant, and colorful works that capture the energy and spirit of nature’s beauty. She is both a talented painter and a successful entrepreneur as well. While she works on canvas with oil paints & wax, some of her work is printed on the finest silk and cashmere from northern Italy. Her apparel line, Dena Lyons, consists of blouses, dresses, kaftans, kimonos, ponchos, scarves, pocket squares, and most recently – masks. The masks are comfortable, breathable cotton that makes a huge fashion statement. All of these exquisite items can be purchased at her online store.
Dena is a native Floridian that now spends six months of the year in the south of France where she is inspired by the countryside that surrounds her. A graduate of Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Dena is active in supporting her alma mater as well as other causes she is passionate about. She recently designed 2 Dreyfoos Foundation masks to support the 30th Anniversary Resilience Fund. She studied fine art and painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In her spare time, she likes to jog, read, listen to music, and cook/bake/ throw dinner parties.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: “I have been painting since I was 2 years old. It started with finger painting – probably on the walls. I’ve been painting ever since. I thought I was going to possibly go into biology but I ended up continuing to paint. ”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in The Palm Beaches, and what do you love there?
A: ” Madison’s in Boca Raton. They have an amazing veggie burger there.”
Q: How long have you lived or worked in The Palm Beaches?
A: “I grew up here, born and raised. I’m a native. ”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in The Palm Beaches?
A: “There are so many interesting people here. That’s an impossible question.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: “I would love to go to New Zealand. It looks like an incredible, untouched area. I like wild areas.”
Q: What is your favorite movie OR what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?
A: “E.T. was the first movie I ever saw and is still one of my favorites. I also appreciate a spectrum of films from American Beauty to The Usual Suspects.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Live your passion. Whatever you love, just do it, the money will come. Keep with it.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “Get married and have kids, start a family. Climbing Machu Pichu.”
Q: What is your favorite music or 3 bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: “I love classical. I love Brahms, 4th Symphony and I also love jazz. Music plays a big role in my artwork. Whether it’s me listening to music for individual pieces that actually informs the work. I often name canvases like one called the Allegro con Brio after musical terms or pieces of music.”
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about The Palm Beaches?
A: “Sprinkles Ice Cream in Palm Beach. I’ve been going there since I was a kid.”
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about The Palm Beaches?
A: “It’s like a bubble. It’s very picturesque, beautiful, clean & idyllic, like something out of a poem. Each city in The Palm Beaches is very distinct with its own sensibility, flavor, and way of living.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: “In France, painting. Currently, I spend a lot of time traveling. I would like to spend my time painting year-round. “
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I love to swing dance and I used to belly dance. I love dancing as a whole!”
Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: “Warmth, cozy & familiar. ”
Q: If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose?
Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?
A: “I want a Gardner to help me keep my trees alive.”
Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
A: “Meryl Streep, she’s such a strong woman and she’s so good at all ranges of emotion.”
